Reflections on Learning, Leadership, and Technology

Welcome to my learning journal for this course on blended and technology-enhanced learning. As a former elementary educator with more than 20 years of classroom experience and a current K–12 instructional coach, I have always been passionate about helping both students and teachers grow through meaningful learning experiences. In addition to my work in schools, I also own my own educational company and serve on the board of an educational training and professional development organization, which has further strengthened my interest in innovative instructional practices and adult learning. This blog will serve as a space to document my reflections, learning, and growth as I explore instructional technology, digital tools, and blended learning strategies that can enhance engagement and support diverse learners. Throughout this course, I have been especially interested in creating original instructional content using scripts, prompts, and multimedia tools to design lessons with stronger visual appeal and more dynamic, “movie-like” learning experiences. My goal is to continue developing learning opportunities that are engaging, accessible, and purposeful for both students and educators while thoughtfully integrating technology to support meaningful instruction.

Reflection

Throughout this course, I have gained a deeper understanding of how blended learning and instructional technology can be intentionally designed to create meaningful, engaging, and student-centered learning experiences. Although I entered the course with more than 20 years of experience in education and a current role as a K–12 instructional coach, this experience has challenged me to think differently about how technology can support instruction beyond simply adding digital tools to existing lessons. Instead, I have become more focused on designing learning experiences that are interactive, visually engaging, and purposeful for diverse learners.

One of the most meaningful aspects of this course has been the opportunity to create original multimedia instructional content. Developing flipped lessons, lesson opener videos, digital learning centers, and technology-enhanced assessments pushed me to think creatively about pacing, visuals, narration, and learner engagement. I found myself exploring ways to write scripts and prompts that would allow me to create more dynamic and “movie-like” learning experiences that capture students’ attention while still maintaining instructional clarity and rigor. This process reinforced the importance of thoughtful instructional design and reminded me that effective technology integration requires intentional planning, reflection, and revision.

Another important takeaway from this course has been recognizing the balance between technology and teacher expertise. While tools such as AI, video creation platforms, and digital learning applications can greatly enhance instruction, they still require educators to make professional decisions about pacing, accessibility, clarity, student readiness, and content accuracy. Technology alone does not create meaningful learning; rather, it is the educator’s ability to thoughtfully design experiences around learner needs that makes instruction effective. This understanding has strengthened my perspective as both an instructional coach and educational leader because it highlights the importance of supporting teachers in using technology purposefully rather than simply using technology for its own sake.

As I continue through this course, I hope to further strengthen my ability to design engaging blended learning experiences that support collaboration, creativity, accessibility, and authentic learning. The assignments completed so far have not only expanded my technical skills, but also deepened my understanding of how instructional design, reflection, and innovation work together to support 21st century learners.
